Dashboard - Overview

You get a simple grid to manage canonical URLs for various pages in your store. On top of the grid, you can change the language — use this option to set up canonicals for specific stores.

Here, you can find tabs for:

Products
Collections
Pages
Blogs
Blog Posts

In the list, you can find the title, URL, and a field to set the canonical URL for each item.

How to Use the MIT Canonical URLs App for Shopify?

To set a canonical URL for any page in the store, open the app dashboard and follow these steps:

Select the Language from the dropdown in which you want the app to load the content entries.
Choose the type of content you want to update – for example, Products.
Select the item to change the canonical URL (you can also use the search functionality)
Enter the URL in the Canonical URL field and click Update

For example, here we set the canonical URL of a product to https://example.com/

You can check the canonical added to the product page in the frontend code. (On the page > Right Click > View Source to see it)

Similarly, you can edit canonical tags for other pages like collections, pages, blogs, and articles in Shopify using the app.

A canonical tag (a.k.a canonical URL) is an HTML code pointing to the original version page when multiple pages contain the same content. It tells the search engine crawlers which version to prefer for crawling and indexing from the duplicates.
