How to Automatically Tag Orders in Shopify? (With Shopify Flow)

By Shivbhadrasinh GohilUpdated on May 26, 2025 5 min read

Shopify allows adding multiple tags to orders.

However, manually assigning tags based on various conditions is time-consuming and can lead to errors.

This blog will show you a simple way to automatically add order tags in Shopify without cost.

But, first let’s understand the basics.

What are Order Tags in Shopify?

Order tags are the predefined labels that can be assigned to orders based on specific criteria. For example, if an order is placed from outside of India, it can be labelled as ‘International.’

You can create multiple order tags based on your requirements, like order value, shipping method, customer type, and so on.  There are various Shopify apps for order tagging available in the market that helps you save time in your day-to-day operations.

The best way to automate this process is by using the Shopify Flow app — a free app in the Shopify app store.

How to Use Shopify Flow to Auto-Tag Orders?

Follow each step to automatically tag orders in Shopify.

Step 1: Install Shopify Flow App

Head to the Shopify app store and install the Shopify Flow app.

Step 2: Create a New Workflow

Now, head to the app dashboard in the Shopify admin panel and click on Create Workflow.

Then, from the two options available, click on Select a trigger

Step 3: Define Conditions & Action to Tag Orders

You will be redirected to the workflow creation dashboard. Here, you will have to create specific conditions and actions for the order tags.

Workflow Creation Dashboard
  • Condition – It is a certain criteria that explains the conditional logic of workflow.
  • Action – The action is a result of fulfilling certain conditions.

Let us consider one example and set it here in the auto tag.

If the order is placed from the country India then assign the auto tag as “Indian Customer” to an order.

Add Auto Tag and Assign Country and Turn on the Workflow

Do not forget to “Turn on the workflow” after setting the condition.

This is how the orders will be auto-tagged after the condition is met.
