The configurable product in Magento 2 store allows your customers to select the variant they are expecting by choosing various options. It looks similar to a single product with drop-down lists of options for each variation.
For instance, the customer added the red product in the cart from a configurable product and purchased other products. After purchasing the required products, he is visiting the cart page for proceeding to checkout. It is displaying a parent thumbnail image of a configurable product. For a minute, the customer gets confused about which color I’ve added to the cart?
What’s the solution? It is the best practice to display the selected product image in the cart and mini-cart to release customers from confusion. In this scenario, use the below method to display simple product image for configurable product image in Magento 2 mini cart and cart.
Method to Display Simple Product Image for Configurable Product Image in Magento 2 Mini Cart and Cart
- Log in to Magento 2 admin panel.
- Navigate to “Stores > Settings > Configuration”.
- Click Checkout from the Sales tab.
- Expand the Shopping Cart option.
- Select the “Product Thumbnail itself” from the “Configurable Product Image” option.
- Save the configuration.
For example, you are adding a green hoodie to the cart from a red, blue, and green option. If this method is not applied in your store, it displays the parent product thumbnail instead of a particular color selection.
The output on the cart page will look like shown below:
In the mini cart, it displays the selected product thumbnail itself also.
Here you go, now it displays simple product image for configurable product image in the mini cart and cart.
You can apply the same solution in the grouped product by selecting “Product Thumbnail itself” in the “Grouped product image” option.
