How to Set up Hotjar Tracking in Shopify? (3 Steps)

To install Hotjar on Shopify, follow this 3-step, straightforward process:

Step 1: Copy the Hotjar Tracking Code

Step 2: Head to theme.liquid. in Shopify

Step 3: Paste the Code & Save

Step 1: Copy the Hotjar Tracking Code

Start by signing in to your Hotjar account or creating one if you don’t have one. 

Then, go to Install tracking code and select Add code manually in the installation process.

Now, you will find the Hotjar tracking code on the dashboard. Copy it and head to Shopify.

Step 2: Head to theme.liquid.in Shopify

Now, from your Shopify admin panel, head to Online Stores> Themes > (…) Three dots > Edit code.

In the left sidebar, within the Layout folder, click theme.liquid

Step 3: Paste the Code & Save

Scroll down till you find the </head> tag and paste the Hotjar Tracking code just above it and Save the changes.

After saving the changes, you will see a successful message in your Shopify dashboard.

Now, head to Hotjar and click Verify Installation to check if it is added correctly.

That’s it, you have successfully installed Hotjar in your Shopify store.
