What is Product URL in Shopify?

In Shopify, the product URL is the web address through which the product can be accessed. The products appear in the /products/ sub-directory and follow this URL structure:

https://example.com/products/{product-url-slug}

Shopify also creates other URLs for the product, depending on the collections it is in.

And you do not have any control over the prefix. But you can change its slug (i.e. the last part of the URL.)

How to change product URLs in Shopify

Here are the steps to change product URL in Shopify:

  • Step 1: Select Product to Edit URL
  • Step 2: Edit Search Engine Listing
  • Step 3: Modify URL Handle

Log into your Shopify admin and move to ‘Products.’ From the list, select the product to edit its URL.

Inside the product details page, scroll down to the “Search engine listing” section.

Click “Edit” on the preview snippet.

Step 3: Modify URL Handle

Now, modify the product URL slug.

It is recommended to keep the “Create a URL redirect” option checked to redirect the old URL to new one.

Click “Save.”
