In late March 2025, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) introduced a new symbol for its national currency — Dirham.
They have replaced the traditional abbreviations AED or DHS with the letter “D” and two horizontal lines in the middle, representing financial stability and reflecting elements of the UAE flag.

Here, I will show you a simple step to update the currency symbol to the new one across all websites using AED currency.
Unicode for the New AED Symbol
Currently, no Unicode is available for the new AED symbol. However, it might happen in the future.
For now, we will have to load a custom font file.
How to Use the New UAE Dirham (AED) Currency Symbol in HTML?
Load UAE Dirham Font File
You will first need to load the UAE Dirham font file in HTML. Download and unzip the below file that will need to be imported to your store:
Display the Symbol Using Unicode
Now, use the below code wherever you want to use the new AED symbol:
<span style="font-family: 'UAEDirham'">ê</span>
That’s it.
Now your website will show the new digital Dirham instead of AED.

How to Replace Old AED Currency Symbols?
Your old currency might appear in one of the ways mentioned below:
- Price: Dhs 100
- Price: AED 100
In order to replace this with the new currency symbol, you will have to:
- Download and import the UAE Dirham font file in HTML
- Then apply the same code mentioned in the above step
