1. The software development market is contributing approximately US$379.29 billion in revenue by 2025.
The software market is increasing rapidly and has reached the figure of $742 billion USD. The dominance of the US in software is clear, as about half of this global revenue is generated by it alone.

Enterprise software is globally in demand right now, as already upwards of about $1 trillion USD has been spent on it, and there is no sign of stopping its demand.

2. The market for application development software is forecasted to generate $195.77 billion in revenue by 2025.
With the explosion of smartphones in the market, the need for applications has also witnessed an increase in demand. It has come very close to reaching the 200 billion USD mark this year.

87% of developers work with the Android operating system. Making it the most favorite operating system. 

3. The e-commerce software market size reached US$8.41 billion in 2025

As a result of the huge demand for Software developers in the US market, it is obvious that the total workforce of software developers will get a boost in its numbers in the coming five years.

6. AI and automation tools have boosted developer productivity. 
From 2020 to 2023, the average number of characters typed per keystroke went up by 41%, and lines of code edited per minute increased by 39%.

Developers are now able to write more per keystroke and are also able to edit more lines of code per minute because of the advent of AI.

7. 70% of developers use or plan to use AI tools in their development workflows this year.
The outlook of the majority of the developers (70%) is positive towards Artificial Intelligence, and they are using it in their day-to-day work.

Around 63% of global developers are actively engaged with AI-assisted development technologies. Generative AI and Robotics were seen as in vogue among developers.

9. JavaScript leads as the most popular language at 65%
JavaScript is the most famous programming language as it is trusted by no less than 65% of developers. Followed by:

  • HTML/CSS at 52%
  • SQL at 49%
  • Python at 48%
  • TypeScript at 32%

Among them, Rust is one step ahead, as it is admired by no less than 80% of them according to a poll.

10. Professional developers tend to use PostgreSQL more (50%), whereas learners prefer MySQL (54%). 
Developers who work in companies prefer PostgreSQL, whereas students have been found to work more with SQL.

11. 27% of developers are full-stack developers, followed by 14.2% working as back-end developers.

Most developers are currently looking forward to making their careers in full-stack (27%), and the second most in-demand development post is backend developer (14.2%)

More time has been spent on coding during working hours from the year 2020 to 2023. An increase of no less than 2.8%. 

12. Erlang and Elixir lead the highest-paid programming languages worldwide in 2024. The most paid jobs in the IT industry currently are Erlang and Elixir developers, who earn close to $100,000 on average.

The lowest paying salaries are reserved for those developers who work in Raku and Cobol languages. Even though they have more experience, they earn much less, 25% compared to other languages.

13. In the United States, the median annual salary for software developers is $131,450.

14. Nearly all senior-level professionals (99%) hold significant influence regarding new technology acquisitions

Almost all senior-level professionals and about 86% of engineering managers enjoy a high amount of privileges when it comes to making the decision to purchase new devices.

15. The global count of software developers stands at 26.3 million, up from 25.6 million in 2021
The total number of developers has increased to 26.3 million in 2023, which was 25.6 million two years ago.

Wherever in the male developers currently dominate the software development industry. 80% of the developers in the world are male, and only 19% are female. 

Developing jobs are mostly for the youngsters, as it has come to light that more than 40% of all developers in the world are in the age group 25-34. And also close to 30% of developers have experience of 5-9 years in this field.

16. 84% of developers have post-secondary education

About 84% of all developers have been noted to have post-secondary education, and within this group, 47% hold a bachelor’s degree, and 26% have a master’s degree.

17. In 2023, 60% of developers worked fully remotely

A majority of developers (60%) are seen to have been working remotely, and about 85% of them are working either remotely or in a hybrid state. This shows an 8% increase in fully remote work since 2021.

64% of developers reported feeling more productive working from home, a jump from 55% in 2021.

18. In the U.S. 45% of developers work remotely

Almost half of the total working force of developers in the USA stay home and work remotely, whereas, in contrast, only 20% of developers in Germany have the freedom to choose the work model.
