ChatGPT Vs. Bard Vs. Bing – Trying to figure out which is better? Here are the major differences between the artificial intelligence chatbots.

Just put in the prompts or commands, and AI will do all the work.

That’s the power of today’s AI models.

ChatGPT release was a huge success.

It crossed 1 million users milestone in less than a week of its release!

This started an AI revolution in the industry.

Microsoft and Google jumped into the AI wagon. No sooner than Microsoft released Bing Chat, Google announced its state-of-the-art conversational AI service named Bard.

Doing everyday tasks such as creating content, summarizing texts, and solving other problems has become faster using these AI-powered chatbots. But, what are the differences between ChatGPT Vs. Bard Vs. Bing? Which one is the best?

Let’s find out…!

GPT Vs. LaMDA: What are the Differences?

The subtle differences in the chatbots’ responses come from their underlying language models. Bing Chat uses the GPT-4 language model, which is the same as that used by ChatGPT. The reason is Microsoft’s huge stake in OpenAI. On the other hand, Google uses its own language model, called LaMDA.

Let’s understand each of the language models in detail.

GPT – The Language Model Behind ChatGPT and Bing Chat

Think of GPT as a scholar who has read a lot of books and has knowledge of multiple domains. It can generate almost human-like text by predicting the subsequent words.

Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) is a large language model developed and trained by OpenAI on a large volume of textual dataset.

It is a natural language processing model trained using deep learning to generate human-like textual responses.

It is excellent at:

  • Processing text and generating response
  • Summarizing textual data
  • Generating code snippets and debugging

The first version of the model, the GPT-1, was developed in 2018, followed by its successors: GPT-2, GPT-3, and so on…

The research preview of ChatGPT was initially powered by GPT-3.5, a fine-tuned version of the GPT-3 language model using both supervised and unsupervised sessions.

It has a vast neural network of 175 billion parameters.

ChatGPT and Bing Chat currently use the latest version, i.e. GPT-4, which is better, faster, and more accurate as compared to previous versions.

What is LaMDA? – The Language Model Behind Google Bard

Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) is Google’s breakthrough conversational technology.

Basically, it is a Transformer-based language model trained on dialogue, which can generate human-like responses to conversations.

Google AI team has been working on LaMDA since 2017, and it has been trained using over 750 GB of data. The dataset included 1.56 trillion words from the public dataset. This model is used by Google Bard to generate quick responses based on the data available in the Google search index.

ChatGPT Vs. Bard Vs. Bing Chat: Which is the Best AI Chatbot?

Now, it’s time for the final showdown.

Let’s try out different prompts on the AI chatbots: ChatGPT, Bard, and Bing Chat to find out which one is the best.

Round 1: Tell me a Joke

So, let’s start with a bit of humor first!

I asked each of the chatbots to write a joke on a cat.

ChatGPT vs Bard vs Bing - Write a Joke

Google Bard generated three really funny jokes on cats!

ChatGPT and Bing Chat generated the same punny jokes

Round 1 Winner: Google Bard

Round 2: Solve a Mathematical Problem

Let’s find out which chatbot can be relied on for solving Math problems.

I asked each of the chatbots to solve: -1 x -1 x -1

ChatGPT vs Bard vs Bing - Solve Maths Problem

The correct answer is -1.

Google Bard disappointed me here with the wrong answer.

Round 2 Winners: ChatGPT and Bing Chat

Round 3: Opinion-based Question

How did the chatbots respond to controversial questions? Do they respond to queries in a non-partial manner?

Let’s give them a try.

I asked ChatGPT, Bard, and Bing Chat – Did NASA Fake the Moon landing?

ChatGPT vs Bard vs Bing - Opinion-based Questions

I loved Google Bard’s honesty here.

ChatGPT and Bing Chat also performed well.

Bing Chat pulled information from credible sources to explain why Moon landing by NASA was real and Chat GPT provided a reasonable answer.

Round 3 Winners: Draw

Round 4: Check the Grammar

ChatGPT, Bard, or Bing Chat – which chatbot is a good grammar coach?

I asked each chatbot to find a grammatical mistake in this sentence: “After declining for months, John tried a new method to increase sales.”

This sentence was intentionally chosen to check how subtle these chatbots are at catching grammar errors.

ChatGPT vs Bard vs Bing - Grammar

Google Bard did a fine job here. It pointed out the dangling modifier issue in the sentence, which remained unnoticed by ChatGPT and Bing Chat.

Round 4 Winner: Google Bard

Round 5: Fact Check

Lastly, let’s find out which chatbot provides the most accurate answers.

I asked a factual question – Which Indian states start with letter G?

ChatGPT vs Bard vs Bing - Facts

To my surprise, both ChatGPT and Bing Chat answered it wrong.

Google Bard again took the trophy home here.

Round 5 Winner: Google Bard

The Final Verdict: Which AI Chatbot is Best?

ChatGPT, Bard, and Bing Chat — they all are new-in-the-market AI chatbots. It is just the beginning of the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution. These chatbots differ from one another from various aspects, such as their language model, data source, and purpose. From the above ChatGPT Vs. Bard Vs. Bing Chat comparison, it can be concluded that:

  • Google Bard is good at finding factual and updated real-time information.
  • ChatGPT is good at analyzing data and solving problems.

Bing Chat still has a lot to improve to give solid competition to Google Bard. I have found some really interesting Chatbot stats and facts that will help you judge its effectiveness and decide if you should have one for your business.

Finally, calling any single chatbot the best one would not be wise here. Each of them has their own pros and cons, and you can leverage all of them according to your needs and preferences.

OpenAI is continuously releasing an upgraded version of the GPT language model. Google is also planning to upgrade Bard chatbot to Pathways Language Model (PaLM), which is powered by 540 billion parameters.

The multi-fold increase in the power of AI language models is anticipated for sure. We may also see witness new players in the AI market with time.

Be ready for the AI future. The revolution has just begun.
